Abstract
A case of a 48-year-old man with situs inversus totalis who developed an early gastric cancer coexisting with hyperplastic gastropathy was successfully treated with total gastrectomy. The transposition of abdominal organs did not hinder the
diagnosis or
the surgical procedure.
The clinicopathologic characteristics and risk of developing cancer in association with hyperplastic gastropathy are discussed.
This case report suggests that total gastrectomy is an appropriate procedure for gastric cancer coexisting with enlarged gastric folds, because it prevents development of gastric cancer and diminishes the incidence of anastomotic complications.
